Foldup Wall Mounted Beds

Easy Foldup Wall Mounted Beds Under $300.00

This is a common setup for hunting/boondocking CTCs.

To reinforce the bed frame where it folds in the middle, we used 1"x1/8" aluminum angle to reinforce one side and 1x4 board to reinforce and support mattress when folded up on the wall side of frame.
Very easy to build and lightweight leaves about 57 inches clear between them folded up and about 10 inches when down, in a 6ft wide trailer.
They can be turned into a single large bed when down but you would need to fabricate a bridge between them unless you built them closer together, or you could go with a queen size platform.
Available mattress sizes, and easy storage, really made the full size frame the logical choice for smaller trailers.
To use twin size frames and mattresses you would have to be 7ft or wider trailer.
We cut about 1/2" off in inside leg so it can easily fold down.

Typically use 1x8 Pine Boards ripped to 6" for the frames when using a 4" thick mattress,
but this can vary depending on mattress thickness you choose.
The measurement between these boards must be atleast 1/2" wider than the overall length of bed frame, to allow clearance.
Bed Folded Up in Frame

When using a full size frame for the 2 beds we use a single size (25"x75") mattress.
We bolt spring loaded latch pins to both ends of the frame to lock the bed in the upright position.

The bed frames in the pictures are a folding full size, we use a half on each wall.
Bed Frames

We used 2" x 1/8" aluminum plate and 3/8" x 2" shoulder bolts for the pivot point.
The bolts are 5/16 x 3/4 Flat Head Countersunk Socket Cap Bolts with 5/16" Torx Barrel Nuts.
We use a flanged Nylock nut and flat washer on the shoulder bolt.

Key thing is getting the depth right for the thickness off mattress. We wanted it to just touch the wall without compression so it reduces rattle and wear. W added 1" to thickness of mattress to give me the center of the shoulder bolt, was easy to calculate with CAD, see picture.

We have also built versions with cabinets built into the framing above the beds.
